About this contract
The Somali community has been identified as being over-represented in acute mental health services. There are historical reasons why Somali people may experience poorer mental health and social and cultural barriers to addressing this through early intervention offered to the general population. This is consistent with national data. The aims of the service are to improve well-being in the Sheffield Somali community and to prevent mental ill health by: • Increasing awareness of mental health conditions and support and services that are available to address them • Reducing stigma about mental health • Supporting Somali people suffering mental ill health to access support and services The service will work in a proactive and collaborative way to improve well-being amongst the Sheffield Somali community.
