About this contract
ONR inspectors undertake inspections of all UK nuclear licensed sites, and dutyholders who transport radioactive material, which provides for the potential exposure to a wide energy spectrum of ionising radiation. As a result, ONR is looking to manage the risks of exposure of its employees carrying out their duties. It is ONR policy that all inspectors and visiting staff (around 450 people) are issued with personal dosemeters (currently Thermoluminescent Dosemeter (TLD)), which are monitored quarterly to identify exposure to ionising radiation. This is to ensure doses are controlled, do not exceed any internal or regulatory dose limits that would require individuals to become a classified person under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17), and to ensure doses remain As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP). We are therefore seeking to put in place a new contract with a Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Approved Dosimetry Service (ADS) provider to provide dosimetry assessment, co-ordination and record keeping services for ONR personnel, for a period of three years, with an option to extend in annual increments for a further two years (i.e. 3+1+1).
