About this contract
The 2011 census showed 18% of North West Leicestershire's population of 93,468 had health problems that limited their day-to-day activities to some extent. Over half of this 18% were aged 64 or above. The census also showed 1,623 of households with at least 1 tenant aged 65 or over rented their home from the Council. With life expectancy predicted to increase, the number of tenants 65 and over will also increase, as will the proportion of households in existing stock/older Council properties requesting an aid and/or adaptation. The Council has approximately 4,200 Council homes and this procurement is an expression of the Council's continuing commitment to providing adaptations to enable tenants to remain in their home for as long as it is safe and reasonable to do so, giving due consideration for the suitability for the property to be adapted. Broadly, such reasonable adaptations are those which may improve access to a tenant's home, improve mobility in and around their home, or help with daily living. Examples include the installation of level access showers or wet rooms, complex major alterations and/or external works.
