About this contract
Historic England is the public body that looks after England's historic environment, and an arm's-length body of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. We champion and protect historic places, helping people understand, value and care for them. As part of a new heritage strategy recently outlined by the Culture & Heritage Minister, it was announced that Historic England would work to develop a historic placemarker scheme to allow communities to mark out and celebrate the history that has been made locally. This tender is for the first step towards such a scheme by establishing what, if any, kind of nationally-co-ordinated historic place marker scheme has the greatest chance of success.
