About this contract
The House of Commons and the House of Lords has the requirement for a Video Archive (near line) storage solution for use by the Parliamentary Recording Unit (PRU). The Parliamentary Audio and Video (AV) archive is a collection of audio and video recordings of proceedings of the UK Parliament. The video collection dates back to 1987 when the televised coverage of Parliament started. The next phase of the AV Archive Digitisation and Storage project is to begin digitisation of the 42,000 video tapes stored on the Parliamentary Estate, a process that will be started in December 2015. The UK Parliament has completed the implementation of a new solution called the Common Video Platform to support the parliamentlive.tv service (July 2015). Existing capability of the Common Video Platform is to be used to carry out the AV Archive Digitisation. The platform shall be extended to include a Video Archive service to support the storage of digitised video assets; a near-line storage solution is required to deliver the core functionality of the Video Archive service.
