Judith's Field already contains a skatepark and pump track which are both very well used by most age groups. However, there is a recognised need for an additional facility where younger children, some on balance bikes, can start to try smaller ramps and tracks. This will also offer opportunities for older children and adults to start using skateboards, scooters and bmx.
The tarmac area adjacent to the skatepark would be an ideal location for this facility. This is currently used as an area for kicking balls against the existing graffiti wall.
It is anticipated that the design of the Novice Skatepark will involve the removal of the graffiti wall. The cost of removal of this structures will be by others and should not be included in the tender price.
It is required that a path be left between the existing skatepark and the new novice skatepark to allow access to the rest of the field and to provide separation from the experienced users of the existing skatepark and discourage movement between the two.
This contract has one lot. Bid if it suits your firm.
REQUIREMENTS
1) Pump Track for Youngsters
This needs to be really mellow and allow children as young as say 2 be able to go round on balance bikes. It will have bumps that go up and down in an oval shape. A flat banked area which can be used as a starting point is considered (similar to that on the main pump track)
2) Mini Ramp
A mini ramp smaller than that already on the main skate park will be used by everyone from youngsters starting out to adults just getting into a wheeled sport. A mini ramp might consist of two quarter pipes facing each other with a flat section in the middle so a rider can go back and forth doing tricks.
3) Plaza Style Street Obstacles
The remaining space could be utilised with small street obstacles. This might loosely replicate what is already in the main park but be a lot smaller. So maybe have a manual pad, a small ledge, a small rail and small quarter pipes or flat banks at the edge which can be used to get speed towards them.
4) Whole Floor Surface Concrete
It will be essential that all the old tarmac is ripped up and fresh concrete put down
5) Each Section Linking Together
A smart design will allow for the 3 areas to link together. For example the top of the pump track will have a flat section that could also connect in to the back of the mini ramp. This will look aesthetically pleasing and allow for utilising all sections at once during quiet spells.
6) Additional Suggestions
The Council welcomes any other suggestions from contractors on any other enhancements to the novice site
