About this contract
The Sill Landscape Discovery Centre was completed in June 2017, and it has attracted more than 150,000 visitors in its first year. As the new infrastructure beds in, some minor works are necessary to reflect the ground conditions that have evolved though the appearance of high water levels and to adapt to traffic use. The works outlined below sets out to address those items. Phase 1. Over the last 12 months localised areas of high level ground water have appeared. This can be caused by the natural water table or by compacted ground as a result of the large scale building works over the previous years. Our engineers have detailed local solutions to each high water spot, and these are outlined in these works. The footpath down to the overflow car park and the overflow car park itself, have also been prone to suffer excess surface water, and as such the construction of some open ditches are included in the Schedule of Works and Drawings. There is also an opportunity here to extend the current car parking provision, and the creation of an additional 11 spaces are included in this project. Phase 2. The overflow car park was originally designed for limited use, but such has been the demand for parking, a more substantial access track is required. As such, phase 2 of the project will be the construction of a solid track around the field, with the desired end result being the appearance of a farm track.
