About this contract
The Devonshire Dome at Buxton is currently owned and maintained by the University of Derby. The dome itself is the largest unsupported dome in Europe with a diameter of 44.2m and an internal floor area of 1,534 square metres. The grade II* listed dome structure is supported by 22 steel ribs that support a glazed lantern section at the top. The dome is open to the public and its main function is to facilitate teaching for the University. The dome is also used as an events and wedding venue. The upkeep and maintenance of this prestigious build is the responsibility of the University of Derby. The dome is understood to be subject to rainwater ingress form the top lantern section. It is perceived that the ingress is most likely associated with the deterioration of the glazing seals. Therefore the University of Derby is looking to appoint a suitable contractor to investigate and instigate remedial action to prevent further ingress and stop the known rainwater ingress. Additional information: The contracting authority considers that this contract may be suitable for economic operators that are small or medium enterprises (SMEs). However, any selection of tenderers will be based solely on the criteria set out for the procurement.
