About this contract
Natural England are looking to procure work to assess the carbon stored at three SAC sites (Bolton Fell Moss, South Solway Mosses and Roudsea Wood and Mosses), how carbon storage may change in the future and what impact restoration has had on carbon storage The objectives are: - A desk based evaluation of the impact restoration works have had on peat stabilisation, peat formation, greenhouse gas emissions (including methane) and carbon storage, across the three sites restored through the Cumbria BogLIFE+ project. - Evaluation of the longer term (50 - 100 Years) potential of the three sites to reinstate the ecosystem service of net carbon sequestration and climate change mitigation. This should include: o An Estimate of carbon stocks held within each site. This should include both carbon stored in the peat and above ground carbon and projected over 50-100 years. o An Estimate of greenhouse gas fluxes from each site (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and combined as CO2 equivalent) and projected over 50-100 years - An estimation of the economic value of carbon sequestration at each of the sites, for the current project period and long term projections (50 - 100 years).
