About this contract
Oxford is home to a number of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers who have English language needs. Although multiple agencies provide a range of vital support, it has been identified that many migrants require additional support before they can attend accredited ESOL level 1 and similar courses. Non-accredited pre-Entry ESOL was identified as an area that required further support and consultation with ESOL providers identifying that longer courses would be beneficial. In August 2017 Oxford City Council was successful in gaining central government funding from the Controlling Migration Fund. Part of this funding is to provide unaccredited pre-entry ESOL and orientation courses; improve ESOL delivery in Oxford; and support the development of service packs. Funding is available for a two year programme, however year 2 funding is dependent on achievement of year 1 outcomes.
