About this contract
Supply of 7500-10000 tonnes of clay, 500t delivered per day. Additional information: The Environment Agency has the following requirement to fulfil: Procurement and delivery of 7500-10,000 tonnes of suitable clay to enable the rebuilding of a flood storage reservoir on the River Gipping at Stowmarket, Suffolk. It is required that 500 tonnes per day will be delivered. All delivery lorries will have to be on 8 wheeler ridged lorries, not articulated lorries. Outline Specification for purchase of clay for a homogeneous earth fill dam: 1. Maximum permeability of 1 x 10-9 m/sec (confirmed by laboratory testing); 2. Complies with the general requirements of the Specification for Highway Works (SHW) 600 series. Specific requirements are given below; 3. Minimum undrained shear strength of 50kPa; 4. Natural moisture content NMC > PL-4 (Class 2A wet cohesive) or NMC < PL -4 (Class 2B dry cohesive) where PL = plastic limit, as per Table 6/1 for General Fill Class 2A and 2B; 5. Sulphate content to be within the following upper limits when tested in accordance with TRL Report 447 either: (a) the water-soluble sulfate (WS) content does not exceed 300 mg of sulphate (as SO4) per litre (Test No.1); and (b) the oxidisable sulphides (OS) content does not exceed 0.06 % of sulphate (as SO4) (Test Nos. 2 and 4).
