About this contract
The Marches Mosses BogLIFE project (LIFE15 NAT/UK/000786) is a five year project running from 1st October 2016 to 31st December 2021. The project aims to restore Britain's 3rd largest lowland raised bog within the Fenn's, Whixall & Bettisfield Mosses and Wem Moss NNRs near Whitchurch, Shropshire and Wrexham in Wales. The LIFE project is led by Natural England working in partnership with Natural Resources WWales and the Shropshire Wildlife Trust. The multi-million pound project is supported by an EU LIFE and HLF grant The site lies in Fenn's, Whixall & Bettisfield Mosses Special Area of Conservation, four miles south-west of Whitchurch, see Map 1. Bidders are invited to tender for clearing scrub & trees and stump treating/coppicing (as specified) from sections: 28.1 & 27.1 Fenn's Moss, 19.2,19.3,19.6,18.2 & 47 Bettisfield Moss & South-West Whixall Moss. See Maps 2.1-2.5: Map 2.1 - C2 Woodland Clearance of Trees & Scrub on Sections 28.1 & 27.1 NE Fenns's Moss Map 2.2 - C2 Stump Treatment of Trees & Scrub on South-West Whixall Moss Map 2.3 - C2 Stump treatment of Trees & Scrub on Bettisfield Moss South-West 18.2 Map 2.4 - C2 Stump treatment of Trees & Scrub on Bettisfield Moss South 18.2 & 47 Map 2.5 - C2 Stump treatment of Trees & Scrub on Bettisfield Moss 19.2,19.3 & 19.6 Vehicular access will be shown on maps 2.1-2.5. As long as conditions allow, ATV/tracked machine access will be possible on the main tracks on site and along parts of some of the tracks within the sections. The use of bog-mats or brash tracks will be required in most areas for operational use.
