About this contract

Reading Borough Council are seeking an experienced and fully accredited Bikeability cycle training provider to deliver cycle training to young people in the Borough. The successful Contractor will be expected to deliver Bikeability Level 1, 2 & 3 training in schools, predominately throughout the school day during term time. Bikeability Level 3 should be delivered to Secondary Schools either afterschool or within school holidays, unless training can be delivered as part of lessons, such as PHSE or Physical Education. The Contractor will also be responsible for organising and delivering open training sessions at other suitable venues during school holidays. Bikeability Level 1 is expected to be delivered to children in Year 4 and below and attending schools identified by the Council. Bikeability combined Level 1/2 is available to children in Years 5 and 6 at Primary School. Bikeability Level 3 is available to children in Year 6 following the completion of Level 1/2 in Year 5, or for pupils in Secondary Schools in Years 7 – 9. Both Bikeability Level 2 and 3 can also be delivered at private schools to pupils in equivalent year groups. The contract, which is subject to Government funding, is expected to be delivered between April 2017 and March 2020, and may be extended to August 2020 subject to funding. The confirmed figures for Bikeability delivery between April 2017 and March 2020 are included within the specification. These figures are subject to change should additional funding become available to enable us to increase the number of children participating in the scheme. All Bikeability training must be delivered by qualified National Standard Instructors and meet or exceed the minimum requirements set out in the Bikeability Delivery Guide. In addition to the core service being procured as part of this exercise, the Council may also require the successful Contractor to deliver Bikeability Plus modules, including Fix, Learn to Ride and Recycle, as well as provide additional cycle training / services should funding become available.
